The first of the LFW AW11 collections are coming through, and I can't help but feel that I am liking what I'm seeing more than I did at NYFW. Sorry NYers! The Acne show was gorgeous, such amazing colours and textures, leather and chiffon. I love the subtle layering of sheer fabric under leather and over skinny leg cut off pants. A bit of DIY inspiration there!

DIY Sheer Deconstructed Shirt
Bitching and Junkfood is always a massive inspiration for DIY. This sheer deconstructed top is no exception.

DIY Sheer Maxi Skirts
So I haven't worn a maxi skirt in ages, but I have taken a bit of a liking to these maxi skirts, sheer - layered with something short underneath. Makes a maxi a little bit more sexy. Maxi skirts are so easy to make - just take a long tube of fabric and sew onto some elastic. I think this is next on my list of sewing projects.

DIY Willow Sheer Draped Dress
This gorgeous dress by Australian designer Willow screams DIY to me (but doesn't everything?). Layer a long sheer patterned piece of fabric over a black shift or bodycon dress, making sure to gather and ruche it.

DIY Christine Centenera's Sheer Train
Completely fell for this sheer train on Christine Centenera! A. This piece (a skirt or a jacket?) that hangs like a half sheer maxi is amazing and I love that we still get to see her legs. It would be a very easy DIY too! Buy some sheer black fabric, cut to desired width and length (just touching the ground when in heels is perfect), hem in you choose, and then tuck into the waistband of a black bodycon skirt. Wear a jacket over the top of create the illusion of a jacket.

In terms of where to get your fabric - I often buy gorgeous sheer fabric like this from opshops (you may need to rummage in the fabrics bin), and I have recently been going to one in North London that specialises in second hand indian saris and salwar kameez. They have whole room dedicated to indian shawls and scarfs, of every colour and mix of colours under the sun! Perfect for all my DIY projects. Sometimes you have to look in the strangest places for the best finds.

DIY Charles Anastase Sheer Flower Dress
Ok so I don't suggest going out in JUST a sheer dress like this - particualrly not wearing massive granny pants underneath - but I adore the sheer dress with flowers peppered all over it. A sweet top/light jacket made like this would be a winner (cue mosquito netting and flowers from the pound store).

DIY Suede Shorts
Love the heavy look of the shorts - an easy way to do this would be to make a pair of shorts out of pants (suede pants like these from a charity shop if you can find them otherwise heavy linen works well). Chop them off at the knee, and then roll them up to create the hem. Secure the hem by sewing a stitch at both seams instead of hemming them all the way around.

DIY Alexander Wang Sheer Trousers
MJ of Dreaming Spires and Old Car Tyres made these Alexander Wang SS/10 style sheer trews from an old suit of her grandmas. See my post here showing how you can DIY them.

DIY Denim Mini Shorts w denim suspenders
Love this DIY inspiration - grab an old pair of jeans, cut them off but leave the long side seams on both sides. Fray the seams and leave them hanging - to mid thigh would look good I think - or however long you want!

DIY Sheer Maxi Skirt
Have been lusting over the sheer skirt since it hit the red carpets and catwalks a while ago. Stumbled upon this great tutorial from the lovely Maegan of ...love Maegan, showing us how to get out sheer skirts on! I am definitely going to do this, and might even use some plain sheer fabric and try to stitch in some pleats down the bottom a la olsens/michelle williams.

DIY Sheer Trews!
Have loved these sheer pants ever since I saw a similar version on one of the Olsens (who ever knows which?). Found a great DIY from Jazzi McG. She hits the nail on the head when she says that she doesn't want to shell out an arm and a leg for something that can be found online for nothing - she recommends searching ebay for sheer/chiffon/silk lounge pants) - or even thrifted! She bought a 'sexy' sheer pj set on ebay (third photo). I am planning on doing as she advises and sewing black cuffs on sheer pants so that they are tight around the ankle. Wear high waisted, wack some cute shorts underneath and voila!

DIY Denim and Mesh Jacket
Outsapop Trashion highlighted this potential DIY ages ago, and its only just clicked with me! Add some mesh to a thrifted denim jacket - you can be super lazy and just use glue! Or mix it up and add some floral fabric.
