miscellaneous fashion week, part whatever

I'm no longer keeping track of my fashion week posts because I'm so bad at keeping on top of these things. Anyway... these are some looks I love (in a big heap of disappointments):

I'm not usually a Missoni fan because I'm not big into prints or that kind of weekend-getaway look, but these piled on, bohemian, semi-homeless creations are fabulous. These actually make me excited for the prospect that I might be in cold weather next winter. I'm definitely going to stockpile chunky scarves and knit jackets next time I hit up a flea market (maybe Melrose Trading Post on Sunday as a birthday treat to myself?). I also definitely need more creams, beiges, and soft browns and grays in my life.

I liked some of the gothic space-age dresses and skirt-top combos at Louise Goldin. I love the leather bustier looking thing (bottom photo) and the exaggerated hip (Balenciaga started such a trend!) on the skirt to the left. Also, I see a cut-out-shoulder t-shirt DIY in my future.

Okay, and this D&G dress is just for fun:

the return of biba

1960s swinging fashion wouldn't have had nearly as much swing without cult London boutique Biba, run by Barbara Hulanicki. The Biba look was "fresh little foals with long legs, bright faces and round dolly eyes." According to Hulanicki, Biba girls looked "like a funeral" (a fabulous, amazing funeral, of course).

Now Biba is back. Hulanicki is the latest in a long line of incredibly unique designers to do a line for Topshop. The collection, to be released this spring, is based on a Good Girl/Bad Girl concept. It's floaty and pretty meats tough and will introduce Biba to a whole new generation of high street shoppers.

ann demeulemeester, cheaper

The amazing gothic meets Victorian Ann Demeulemeester lace-up boot look is now much more affordable thanks to Jeffrey Campbell.

lover the label/filippa berg

The designers behind Australian fashion label Lover (Susien Chong and Nic Briand) seem to have been very inspired by Swedish fashion editor and stylist Filippa Berg for the creation of their 09 spring collection "Sacred Hearts."

Take a minute to compare the looks:

I love the schoolgirl meets sailor clothes along with the Linnea in Monet's Garden hats. These make me very excited for the possibility that I might go to graduate school in England, because the looks are all very British countryside appropriate. Also, this is yet another reminder that I need a pair of spectator oxfords.

london fashion week, part 1

I somehow got super behind on scanning fashion week photos. I still have some from New York left! Anyway... from what I have seen, these are some of my London favorites:

Everyone else seemed to like Topshop Unique more than I did. It was very raver inspired and I don't think it's as easily wearable as their last collection.

Charles Anastase, Margaret Howell

These looks are so very British! I love the drama the hats add to the looks and the simplicity of the coats.

Christopher Kane

When you combine sheer materials and piping, you've got me under your spell.

all tied up in mary-kate

What a great mixture of utilitarian and bohemian.

I love her quote:

"When I get dressed, I think of it as dress-up time, like the clothes are costume pieces. That's why I like vintage- it has a story behind it. I'm not afraid of walking down the street in something that people think is crazy. What I can't stand is looking like everybody else."

exercise or accessorize?

I vote accessorize.

La Lanphear, can I have your bracelets, please?

These Rad Hourani boots took a minute to grow on me because they're so boxy and boxy boots always look a bit 90s to me, but now I love them.

P.S. While writing the title of this post, I realized I don't know how to spell "exercise" despite that whole BA in Writing and Literature thing. He he. I think that tells you a lot about me.

rock out with your geek out

Slogan t-shirts usually annoy me, but these ones from Type Tees are pretty damn hysterical.

That last one is a fabulous play on the ubiquitous "Keep Calm Carry On" WWII poster.

something soothing, something gray

I love this girl's dress. I was going to post it a few days ago and forgot. I just saw it on rackk & ruin. Thanks for the reminder!

I also saw this on rackk & ruin.

Definitely my next DIY project.
