I've been listening to the RED HOT + BLUE album a lot lately, resurrected by my friend's iPod! I had forgotten all about it and shall buy it asap! This was one of the first ever for-charity compilation albums, put together by the Red Hot non-profit charity organization that was established in 1989 by a group of New York artists in response to the Aids crisis, particularly as the disease was running rampant within the creative community of artists and musicians. Red Hot founder John Carlin had "an improbable dream: to create an AIDS charity album with pop stars singing Cole Porter songs." Red Hot + Blue was released in 1990. John said "That CD was inspired by naivete and sheer will." The album features amazing tracks by musical powerhouses such as Sinead O'Connor, David Byrne, Bono, Annie Lennox, Lisa Stansfied, Neneh Cherry, The Thompson Twins, Kd Lang, Tom Waits, Erasure and The Jungle Brothers and spawned music videos by esteemed Directors such as Johnathan Demme, Jim Jarmusch and Wim Wenders. The album went on to sold 1 Million worldwide and becoming the template for future charity projects. And since then, Red Hot have created 20 more compilation albums, raising over $10 Million for HIV and Aids. The album is unfeasibly good! Buddies Debbie Harry & Iggy Pop's 'Well, did you evah!' is a particular favourite. I adore the video of Iggy and Debbie toomfooling around New York, particularly the opening scenes of them cruising purposefully through Soho like the King & Queen of New York - fabulous! Behold the coolness that is Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop.
I love Aussie model Jessica Hart. She has the most amazing body ever and SHE EATS PIES! (OK maybe not frequently). I saw here recently on The City - Whitney Port was dating Jay from Tamarama, Jessica's boyfriend's Nicolas Pott's band. She came across and laid back and cool and was absolutely stunning. I've mentioned her once before in a previous post (here)
Also love all the supercool pics of her mooching around New York (where she is based) on her Blog - LOVE her style. Simple, sexy, cool. Jess is a good Aussie girl and these Seafolly pics make me look forward to Summer, the beach and a forthcoming (albeit fleeting) trip to Sydney! Will definitely check out Jess's line for General Pants, Neon Hart whilst in Sydney too. Hoping to go to Bondi beach, hit Tuchuzy then sink a few Cascades at the wonderfully pink Hotel Bondi :-) Great to see aboriginal model Samantha Harris featuring in the Seafolly ads also:
I am a big Gossip Girl fan. Whilst Season Three is going a bit awry storyline wise, and I'm over Little J's ridiculous ratty over bleached extensioned contrived rock chick look - I continue to adore Serena's wardrobe! Blair is working her own look, the faaaaar too stitched-up preppie crossed with Audrey Hepburn, which belies her little vixen character. And headbands - no. Leave them to girls under 5 please - or Paris Hilton.
S has the most covetable wardrobe, which is always consistent & in step with her character. For down time casual, the waist coat/jeans/boots look paired with that amazing Palomino mane is tousled chic.
Now that her character's left college, I'm missing the stylised private school uniform look - white shirt, tie & mini kilt paired with fabulous scarves and jewellery. However, the new more sophisticated look & designer dresses are to die for. For events like galas at the Met, the polo & debutante weddings, she is always poured into a designer gown that she wears with confidence, oozing sex - but not trash. Confidence is the #1 BEST accessory for a sexy dress - any sign of nerves - (i.e. head down, hunched shoulders, eyes to the floor, or worse - shrouding the outfit with a cardigan!!) - and the whole outfit is ruined.
GG Costumier Eric Daman explains his inspiration for Serena - which funnily enough, echoes my favourite look... "For Serena, she's very sexy and the sort of inspiration is Kate Moss. It's about being tousled, putting anything on and looking fabulous."
